Did you log into Patreon? The second I logged into the app with the right email address, it appeared in my inbox. Could be a coincidence, but the timing feels related? I also hadn’t received it, so opened Patreon, and then went back to email, and it was there.
That absolutely worked for me as well, with a big caveat that when I first logged into Patreon, it said I was not a paid subscriber. But as soon as the email came in, it updated.
I've been a free subscriber for several years and am now in a position to support financially without a comped sub! This was really the push I needed to make that change - very happy to be able to do it now that you're leaving Substack :)

Lyz Lenz also made the move to Patreon recently, so I've slowly been adapting to the Patreon platform. It IS A pain in the butt to learn yet ANOTHER new platform/app -- but her Substack and yours were, I think, the first two I paid for -- and are (still!) well worth the money -- so I will be there, as soon as I get the email...!
I'm guessing we would then lose access here when our current subscription runs out? I just need to know if I need to go back and look over old threads to see if there's anything I want to save before I lose access forever. (Not that I'd even know where to start with that!)
Nope because it's paused you'll still be able to see all the stuff you saw before — and we'll be leaving things up precisely to preserve the thread content

There's definitely components that I'm going to miss as well. But at some point the larger drawbacks of staying — especially when I think about the future— began to outweigh the ease of staying.
I have a specific annoyance with Patreon that I am going to post here in the hopes that maybe someone has a workaround?!
All emails from Patreon come from the same email address, so "filter messages like this" to add a label in gmail doesn't work because it can't differentiate. (I use labels in gmail a lot!) For example, ages ago I subscribed to WaitButWhy on Patreon, so I had set up a label, and now that label is applied to every Patreon email I get, including the inaugural Culture Study and Burnt Toast emails. I had never needed to figure that out because I didn't interact with Patreon much, and so far I can't get that feature ("filter messages like this") to work at all for these emails. (This seems like it should be fixable so I am hoping eventually I find an answer!)
I feel bad that I am not more gung ho and I am sorry! My hope is that acknowledging to you all who are like-minded that this is a bit of a PITA for all of us might help.
Nellie this IS a pain! I’m going to do a thread at some point in the next few weeks where we try to get things to work the way we want them to (and also come up with a list of things we’d like Patreon to work on). I bet we can figure out a fix then.
I am nervous...one of my favorite pods (Celebrity Book Club) moved to Patreon last year and it has been VERY challenging to listen, as I normally do via apple podcasts, and unfortunately I ended up cancelling. I hope I can figure it out. I find more folks making the move in reverse. I am an oldie and just feel like I figured out Substack!
Totally understand the hesitancy — I too am not wild about learning new platforms! But I also know that the podcast is going to be very easy for you to listen to as normal in Apple Podcasts, and if you have ANY issues, just email me [annehelenpetersen at gmail] and Melody and I will figure it out with you!
I also love(d) CBC but once they moved off i Heart it seemed like they moved further away from the celeb memoirs. S and L are charming as hell but I still want the book talk!

Aja Barber's community on Patreon is just as good as thing one so it can be done!! Thank you, AHP and co for making this happen, I hope it's a fruitful change (which I will now go read about!)

I know this is a very principled move for Culture Study and I support those reasons. I have no desire to support algorithmic tech overlords (or subtweeting like Hamish was doing, yikes https://substack.com/profile/3567-hamish-mckenzie/note/c-171083114).

Hmu if you want to know how to get cmbc/good noticing back on patreon! They have less support than AHP and are a bit less planful on these changes

Seconded! I use Overcast but the process is similar. It’s only annoying for a few minutes one time while you set it up.
