When I was working, I lived just east of the city and took the commuter train (25-40 minute ride, depending on whether it was an express train or all stops) to my job downtown for 25 years. My coworkers were scattered all across the region -- I knew people who commuted from Hamilton in the west, Orangeville in the northwest, Barrie to the north, Oshawa and Bowmanville in the east. That's a huge area. Very difficult to get anyone to stick around too late after work for drinks, and to get together on weekends? Forget it.
