This is essentially what I was coming here to opine on. I think in the US we tend to put a lot more emphasis on hard work being more physical work that requires bodily toughness and stamina rather than mental. There's probably some misogynism in there. And somehow that work gets painted as more genuine, more romantic. That's "real" work.
