I like to think that I pursued my degree with a full awareness of the landscape you describe, but having it articulated this way makes me wonder if I am actually one of the many “excellent students with very little experience of failure in search of some way, any way, of revisiting a structure they associate with nurturing and safety.” Going to have to go sit with that and laugh-sob all over my many diplomas.
