Yes, I'd like to see GenZ's thoughts on this. I'd like to see someone dig back and talk to some Boomers, too.
Vietnam, Kent State, Watergate didn't have people trusting institutions back in the early 70s, either. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories, "Cold war," gas shortages. As an older Gen-Xer I don't have this in my bones, nor do I know the history well enough to opine on any larger context. If feelings count, though, I feel like there's more. (Edited to fix typo and clarify two statements.)
Phew! I'm exhausted from reading, lol. My Favorite newish Country Songs right now are likely "Desert Wind" and "Colorado" by Cody Jinks. Playlist subject to frequent changes without notice.
I love this intentional commentary on zeitgeist, mirror-like pieces being put into the world. For me they don’t compete, just reinforce and validate. I was and wasn’t surprised (pleased really) when within MINUTES of each other I got your newsletter on Zoom dysmorphia and Haley Nahman’s on TikTok filters and face symmetry. It’s been a good time on the internet lately for reading smart people sharing similar views that really point to very thought provoking insights. Thank you and keep ‘em coming!

Is Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, basically the Boomer take on the cultural and social shift of the 60s/70s?
In the case of Anne and Elamin’s essays, I really hope future historians – if we still have historians - use them as primary sources.
As a trailing-edge Boomer and Billy Joel fan, I say the answer to your question is yes, at least for white middle-class Boomers.
That's a great question. And your point -- "if we still have historians" -- yes.
And I also wonder about shifts of the so-called Silent and Greatest Generations. In the US, the Great Migration, for one...
I got 58 seconds into that Morgan Wade song and opened iTunes to buy the whole album. Thanks!
"taught me how to write longform"-- I'd love to know some of those pointers. Thank you for this wonderful interview.
