Yes! I am reconnecting with books for the first time in a long time. I am coming out of having a small dependent child (who is now 7) shortly after medical school and residency.
The only way it happens now is that she is reading more on her own and her only “homework” is 300 minutes of reading a month. So we go to the library together and then have Family Reading Time. I also have 90% quit social media. Amazing the shift in my brain when I spend the time reading a book rather than news and doom scrolling.
Agreed about social media. It really is hard to make space in your brain for both. I've replaced almost all of my social media consumption with Substacks and other newsletters, which don't take up nearly as much idle time, and encourage reading. Also made for an unexpectedly nice Sunday morning ritual: two Substacks I follow publish on Sunday mornings, which gives me this nice reading to do while I have tea. Yay substack! I so much hope they don't ruin this app..!
yes! i uninstall social media apps from my phone regularly and it’s amazing how much more time i have. sometimes i will reinstall when i intentionally want time to pass quickly, like on a layover or something.
